We applaud these influential artists for their determination to persevere with their craft in the face of adversity and discrimination from society and at times their own families. Choosing the path of an artist is not easy and when the deck is stacked against you to begin with, it can be especially difficult to pursue your calling. Take a look at these sculptors who changed history and made the world better because they didn't give up.
Sculpture often takes a back seat to painting and two dimensional art in Contemporary and Modern Art contexts but we felt it was necessary to highlight these accomplished sculptors, many of whom are women.
